How to send a press release:
- Sign in to your account
- Note: You must be a publisher in order to send press releases!
- If you haven’t joined, it’s free and easy! Just click Sign Up and fill in your details.
- Make sure you're on your Homepage.
- Click on Create a Release.
- Headline: The headline should be a concise and memorable summary of the news you're announcing. You may use up to 255 characters for your headline.
- Vertical: The vertical describes the overall industry your announcement regards. At this time, GameWire is the only vertical offered by VerticalWire. GameWire reaches media members and consumers within the interactive entertainment industry.
- Subhead: If your announcement contains additional important details that were not included in the headline, use the subhead space. You may use up to 255 characters for your subhead. Note: This is not a required field.
- Location: Enter the geographic location the announcement is being issued from. For instance: San Francisco, CA -or- Leipzig, Germany.
- Dateline: Enter the date when you intend to issue your announcement.
- Body: Use the body to input the content of your news release. Do not enter your boilerplate (or 'About VerticalWire') in the body, as you will be prompted for these details later.
- Click on 'Create Release.' Note: This does not send your release; it simply saves a draft on VerticalWire's servers.
- Add Release Boilerplates
- Boilerplate Title: The boilerplate title should be a very short heading that concisely describes the content of your boilerplate. For instance: About VerticleWire.
- Boilerplate Body: Enter the body of your boilerplate.
- Note: If your news release involves additional companies or products that require boilerplate content, click on 'Add another boilerplate' and enter the required information.
- When finished, click 'Attach Boilerplate(s)'
- Add Media Contacts
- Contact Name: Enter the contact's first and last name.
- Job Title: If relevant, enter the contact's job title.
- Company: If relevant, enter the contact's company.
- Phone Number 1: Enter the contact's phone number. Note: You may add text such as "Office:" or "Mobile:" if you wish to specify additional details regarding this phone number.
- Phone Number 2: If relevant, enter the contact's additional phone number.
- Email Address: Enter the contact's email address.
- Note: If your news release has more than one contact, click on 'Add a media contact' and enter the required information.
- Add Multimedia to this Release: There are three tabs on this screen - Images, Videos, and Links.
- Images: You may link to an image on your own web hosting or upload an image to VerticalWire. You may also enter a title and caption that describe your image, though these fields are optional.
- Videos: You may link to a streaming video on sites like YouTube. You may also link to or upload a thumbnail image for your video, and optionally provide a title and caption.
- Links: You may add additional links to appropriate websites and hosted files by providing the URL for these links. You may also enter an optional title and caption for each link.
- Click 'I'm Finished Here' when you're done uploading multimedia.
- Schedule Delivery for this Release
- Use the calendar to select a date and time to distribute your release.
- Note: If you wish to distribute it immediately, make sure to pick a time shortly in the future to ensure proper distribution.
- If you prefer to schedule delivery at a later occasion, click on 'I'll do this later.' Otherwise, click 'Schedule Delivery.'
- Final Steps
- You will now see a preview of your press release
- Take this opportunity to add or edit the tags for your release.
- Enter the tags that best describe your announcement. Separate each tag with a comma, and press enter when you're finished.
- Avoid using misleading or vague tags. VerticalWire's feedback system rewards proper targeting, and your news will have the greatest impact if you tag it appropriately.
- If you wish to make any changes to the content of the release, click on 'Edit this Release's Content' under 'Owner Options.'
What is a tag?
Tags are keywords or terms that summarize the main topics of a press release. You can use tags to search for the information you want. A tag can be a company name, an industry, a specific game – in short, a tag is like a term you'd use in a search engine.
How to sign up for a tag subscription
There are two ways to sign up for a tag:
- Once you’ve logged in, you can click on Update my subscriptions, and select the subscriptions you want and delete the ones you’re done with.
- Or, click any of the tags on the top of the release, and a green check mark will appear. You are now subscribed to this tag.
By customizing your subscriptions, you control the news that matters to you.
How to remove a tag subscription
You have two ways you can remove a tag:
- Once you’ve logged in, you can click on Update my subscriptions, and select the subscriptions you to delete and subscribe to the ones that interest you.
- Or, click any of the tags on the top of a release, and the green check mark will disappear. You have been unsubscribed.
How to add your news feed
Once you’ve logged you, you can click on Subscribe to my news feed; copy and paste the URL into your aggregator. It’s that simple.
How to share a release
VerticalWire allows you to share any release on a multitude of platforms: dig, del.icio.us, Facebook, Blogger, Newsvine, Reddit or through e-mail.
Click the corresponding link and the release will be added to the platform. Note, you must have an account on a platform before you are able to share through it.
